St John's church, Bassenthwaite
St John's Church at Bassenthwaite was built in 1879, and was designed by D Brade. It replaced an earlier chapel of ease dating from 1470, which is situated on the cross roads. St John's was built because the church of St Bega which is in the middle of a field near Bassenthwaite Lake was too far from the centre of the village.
