Entrance to former stable block at The Avenue
The main part of the large house on Westgate known as 'The Avenue' is in TA1767, but the stable block extends westwards across the grid line into this square. This is the rather grand enrance to the former stable yard, and dates from around 1820. The archway is sandstone with vermiculated rusticated decoration. The building is now apartments grouped around a courtyard, and with a modern staircase within the arch.
