Y Stryd/The Street, Abereiddi
Remains of a row of 5 single-storey, 2-room quarrymen's cottages that once housed slate workers when the quarries were open from 1838 onwards. Many of the workers came here from the North Wales quarries. Conditions were hard and most died before the age of 50 as a result of inhaling slate dust which caused silicosis.
The manager's house can be seen behind on a slightly higher level. The buildings are all made of the black, shaley stone that also gives the beach its black sand.
