Northumberland Court. Sculcoates
Pevsner says "NORTHUMBERLAND AVENUE the picturesque MUNICIPAL HOSPITALS, 1884-6 by Smith & Brodrick, a surprising building to find in this setting. An almshouse, or more correctly several almshouses for it is a combination of the smaller foundations originally located in the Old Town. A large complex arranged around a spacious turfed quadrangle. The buildings are a mixture of brick walls, tile-hung bays, half-timbered gables and pretty corner turrets. Tudor arched gateway with oriel window and a great tower of unexpected and welcome fancifulness."
