Grand Union Canal - Lock No 46 - Hatton Top Lock
The canal opened in 1799 as the Warwick & Birmingham Canal later becoming the Grand Union Canal in 1929. In the early 1930s the locks were widened to accommodate pairs of 14 foot wide boats to compete with road and rail for transport of freight. The original lock can be seen on the far side. Locks and bridges were constructed in concrete, the modern material of the period.
