Lime kiln and tree mallows, Porthgain
Lime kiln and tree mallows, Porthgain
Lime importation and burning preceded the building of the harbour - this kiln is close by the slipway and there is another higher up.
In the foreground, and growing around the structure itself, are examples of the rare biennial tree mallow (Lavatera arborea). They are well-established here and with their woody stems resemble small trees.
