Signposts at the Junction
The older painted granite signpost points the way to "Sancreed Churchtown" while the modern signs just point to "Sancreed". I don't know when the older signpost was placed but the use of the word "churchtown" to distinguish the village or hamlet surrounding the church from the parish as a whole is something which used to be quite common in Cornwall but has largely fallen out of use, perhaps because parishes are now far less important to ordinary people than they used to be.
