Shepton Mallet: Charlton Brewery site
Now a business park; old maltings stand extreme right with the millpond in the foreground and the original brewery block beyond it. Francis Berryman and William Bide established the Charlton Brewery on the site of a redundant woollen mill in 1844. Following various amalgamations and sales, operations ceased around 1982 when the estate was owned by Showerings. The Roman Fosse Way ran through the site, between the millpond and the main brewery block
