The Stable Tavern, 1 Talbot Square
The Stable Tavern, in the middle of this photo, dates from around 1561 when it was built as the stables to the adjacent Talbot Hotel. At some point there was a major fire at The Talbot which prompted the conversion of the stables into a public house. It has continued as such to the present day. Although The Talbot Hotel re-opened after the fire it is currently (July 2008) closed, but The Stable Tavern is very much open. On the right of the pub at 2 Talbot Square is Talbot Stores, a food store specialising in local produce.
