Tram 709 on the Promenade, North Shore
Tram 709 on the Promenade, North Shore
This double deck tram is passing The Strand Hotel on the North Shore. Although it looks very modern it is in fact a modern partial rebuild of a "Balloon" tram dating back to 1934. It can only be used at busy times because it requires a driver and two conductors to operate. Its days may be numbered as Blackpool has now been promised the funds to buy a fleet of 16 modern low floor trams. Once these arrive the number of old trams operated will be much reduced.
