NG2649 : Horizontal beech
near to Dunvegan/Dun Bheagan, Highland, Great Britain

Horizontal beech
Broadleaf trees are usually left standing when pine forest is felled, then in exposed locations, the remaining trees struggle to stay standing through the winter storms. No matter - if you are a tree and you are blown horizontal, you just carry on growing anyway. This beech looks like it's been growing sideways for several years now.
