Upper Cwm Claerddu
Looking from Banc Dafadbeddol across the upper Cwm Claerddu towards the high-level bogland (SN8069 : Peat hags to the east of Llyn Du) making up the source grounds of the Afon Elan (SN9364 : Afon Elan near Elan Village). The Afon Claerddu (SN8067 : Ford over Afon Claerddu) itself is the main feeder of the Claerwen reservoir (SN8663 : Claerwen Reservoir), which is part of the Elan system. The stream in the gully opposite is Nant Canol. The whole area is very boggy and mostly covered in long, wet grass. The high points, such as Banc Dafadbeddol, are covered in mosses, which stand out at this time of year (January) because they are the only green vegetation.
