The tempting open gate from the Brockscombe-Southweek lane leads to Southweek Wood, which occupies the southern slopes of the Wolf valley as it approaches Roadford Reservoir. This ancient woodland, part of the Roadford Lane National Nature Reserve, houses dormice.
